Accessibility
What we have built for, and how to tell us when it fails.
The site is built to be readable and operable without a mouse.
What the design does
- Keyboard focus has a visible outline, and a skip link leads to the main content.
- Section selection uses a label and a blue underline, not color alone.
- Filter results are announced to screen readers without moving keyboard focus.
- Article text is real page content, so it is readable with JavaScript disabled.
- The page reflows to a single column on narrow screens.
- Reduced-motion preferences are respected; nothing autoplays.
Where it currently falls short
- Some older photographs and image-based stories do not include complete image descriptions.
- The print PDF is not a tagged, screen-reader-friendly document. Web article text provides another way to read the stories.
- Archived videos can lack captions or transcripts.
