What is the Club Fair?

Vanessa Leung

The club fair is an annual event that happens during the start of the school year and an in-depth experience of the St. Mark’s student culture where you get to explore, present and join clubs which they will be in for the rest of the school year.

Like a traditional trade market, as you journey through the narrow aisles, the club fair is decorated with colorful, variegated posters and displays while students advertise and promote their diverse options with music, stickers, candies, and more. From politics to arts, the clubs range vastly from one to another, and are always welcoming for you to join. The club fair is mostly student run so it is a great opportunity to meet upper and lowerclassmen outside of your normal friend groups.

The club fair takes around half an hour to walk through and most likely takes place during a community block. As you peruse through your various options you will see the multitude of student interests, find the ones that share the same interests as you, and potentially start new hobbies.

Coming from a current sophomore Jolin Yu, she described the 2021 club fair as “confusion and confusing, and that the school needs a new innovative and clear instruction pamphlet to guide [the school] effectively through the school club fair.” she also thought that the fair was “really hot” and that “everyone was squashed together”. While the fair can be puzzling for new coming students, it is a fun time to spend with your friends to meet new people and topics.

Of course, you are more than welcome to create your own club to present at the club fair, and share your enthusiasm with other St. Markers. Once you get approved, all you need are some simple but creative displays, and come a while before the club fair officially starts. See you there!
