The girls' varsity volleyball team hits the ground running this fall, starting with two wins and two losses. Despite losing critical senior players, the team continues to compete with returners and rising players from last year's junior varsity team.
The team started the nail-biter home opener by going to the fifth set with Middlesex. The scores included 25-23 and 28-26, and the team showed excellent resilience, keeping the game close. Despite the losses, this game helped develop a team with many new players, built chemistry, and conditioned them to withstand pressure between game-winning points.
After adjusting quickly from the unfortunate loss, the team earned its first home win against Brooks, a 3-0 clean sweep. In that game, multiple players served through 5 or more consecutive points, reflecting the team’s consistent defense and continuing their scoring momentum. Continuing the momentum, the team finished its first road game with a competitive yet dominant 3-1 win over Lawrence Academy.
As the season continues, the lionesses face BBN, a team with a 6-0 undefeated record and only one set lost in the 2026-27 season. Despite entering the game as the underdog, the team shows its tenacity and keeps the score close until the final minute. Facing competitive programs like BBN puts opponents under constant pressure and forces them to adjust quickly. Following this game, captain Shae Webber ‘27 notes, “The team is serving stronger, playing better defense, creating longer rallies. Since passing has improved, the setters are able to put up a ball that can be hit, allowing us to compete with any team in the ISL.” Indeed, competing with tough opponents pushes everyone on the team and requires players to match the intensity. Once the team gets comfortable with this pressure, playing other teams becomes straightforward.
As a third-year varsity program, the team builds positive momentum from these experiences. As the fall season progressed, the lionesses’ schedule became busy. With three games in a week and back-to-back home games, team members must manage their stamina while balancing competition in the gym with academics.
Come to the girls' varsity volleyball game and wish them good luck this season! Go Lions!
